Tanzania Mobile Service Providers
In Tanzania the brand tiGO was launched in 2006 after Millicom International Cellular decided to take full control of its Tanzanian network operator MIC Tanzania Limited (Mobitel), by buying out its local shareholders. It competes using technologies GSM/GPRS/EDGE over 900 MHz. Rene Meza, a Paraguayan, is the CEO of MIC Tanzania Limited (tiGO).

Celtel Tanzania was launched in November 2001 and is part of the Pan African celtel group which has a presence in 15 African countries. That is, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Malawi, Congo B, Gabon, Sierra Leone, Chad, DRC, Burkina Faso, Niger, Kenya, Madagascar, Nigeria, Mobitel – Sudan.
